I haven't write to this blog about my new quilting club. It was a bunch of some "pretty woman" who crazy about quilting and patchwork. We're come from same teacher, Nisa's Quilt. We met on Cipete gathering on October. We are on 12.

QQ, that's our club name. It's from Quilting Queens. Yay, we are the Queens of quilting!!! Pretty queens for sure...LOL.

3rd Weekend of November

Hello weekend....

First happy thing happens on this weekend is....I love my new batik bag!!! It's a big bag. I can put all the baby things and mine inside it....even my baby's shoes.

The second is, I just finished the top side of Dahlia. This is my advance class project actually. And it's my first time making Dahlia pattern. Not to difficult. Just need a little patient.

I am preparing for the background and a little border I guess. I haven't make any decision for the color of the border. I used 1.5mtr x 1.5mtr fabrics for the background. It's a big Dahlia. But Not a Giant....

I have a friend, she made a Batik bag and sell it. I have asked some Batik stash from my her yesterday. And she agreed. I promise to get to her house today around afternoon. Then after that, I have to go to the hospital (This is the sad thing) See my father. His hand was operated last night. He was fall and his hand was broken. It was happened at his office. Get well soon, father...

Block # 1 - September

I'm just finishing my September Block from Blogger's Blog Of the Month. It was a fun project. I decided to use Batik Bali fabrics for my choice. I bought the fabrics from my quilt teacher. it was about a year ago. I can't wait to see the whole blogs...!!
September blog is from Sherri's Blog. It was so easy, and I am happy I can make it.

Now, I am waiting for November block. I should make an alarm on 25Th in every month. For reminding me there will be a new block every month. The next month will be to Stephanie Dunphy - Loft Creations

Blogger's Block Of the Month...Block # 2

Good morning everyone, I find something interesting about Blogger's Block Of the Month from Jackie (Canton Village Quiltworks). I'm so interest and like to join the challenge. This would be my first experience in following Blogger Block Of the Month. I hope I could make it.. There are some famous quilt designer who join this projects. One of my favourite is Pat Sloan... Yay! Happy join it!!

I begin with block # 2. This blog #2 designed by Vicky Welsh

I'm using Batik Bali fabrics (yay, me likey!!) I know, it wasn't a good picture I guess. Oke..oke...just blame it the camera. LOL. I made another block with Japanese Fabrics too. It came from my stash. I just hope can manage my stash to be useful someday...

Finish block is only 8". How to make this blog is totally different with our Indonesian sewing's way. Our 1/4" seam allowance exclude the block, but for this block I'm using 1/4" seam allowance include the block. It's rather difficult for me...but I definitely can make it!

Find me!

Yay... I'm attending Quilt Gathering. It's being held on Saturday October 15, 2011 at Balai Sarwono, near Kemang street. We called it Year End 3rd Gathering, Cipete Quilt Community. I'm so happy being there, among some great quilter. Nisa is my quilting teacher was made this gathering happens. This is my first time, but no regret.

There are some projects show on, they are so beautiful and amazing. I feel like I'm nothing while I saw their products :D

I have Pat Sloan's sewing room picture as my favourite, it's still in my dream to have that kind of perfect quilting room. Someday....

Happy Pregnant

Almost 4 months after my last post. Yes, I am pregnant. My third baby (insya Allah). It's almost 24 weeks.

I miss my quilt so much actually. But the morning sickness was killing me so badly. While I'm still doing my hand quilt sometimes.

I have so many outstanding quilt's homework to do. So afraid to see it...!!!

Pray for me, I should finish it before the baby's coming....!!

How to make
1. Cut your fabric

Cut fabric as follows:

- Main fabric one 6 1/2" x 6 " rectangle

- Lining fabric (choose a fabric that contrasts nicely with your main fabric) cut one 7 1/2" x 6" rectangle

- Place right sides together sew short edges together. Once complete you will have a tube fabric.

Press.....

Once seams are sewn press seams toward the lining fabric, turn right side out. Press flat ensuring that an even amount of lining fabric is showing on each side of the cozy - see above picture

Bring the finished edges together and fold cozy in half, lightly press - mark these two points with a pin at each raw edge.

Creating the basic shape....

Fold in one finished edge to the centre points that you just marked, ensuring that the centre of the lining detail on the front of the cozy matches the centre pin. Pin in place.

Fold in the other finished side ensuring that the lining detail on this side overlaps the one on the other side. Pin in place.

Ensure that the lining fabric is facing outward - refer above.

Sew edges ...

Straight stitch edges securing stitches at start and finish of stitching and reinforcing centre overlap.

Neaten raw edges ...

Neaten raw edges with a row of zig zag. Once complete gently press the cozy flat so as to leave a side crease to help with the next step ....

Squaring corners ...

To square corners bring folded edge to seamed edge matching centre points.

Using a ruler ensure the seam will be square and mark a sewing line at 7/8" - refer to diagam for detail.

Sew a straight row of stitching along the marked line securing your stitching at the start and end.

Proceed in this same manner to complete all four corners.

Finishing corners ...
At this point you may like to trim the excess fabric triangles that have been created by squaring the corners. If you do this I suggest that you then neaten the raw edge. This process will produce a neater result but it isn't necessary.

Turn to right side...

Turn your completed tissue cozy to the correct side and carefully push out corners.

Finished!

So happy knowing, I'm done with this project. Long stories happens on quilt term. Hopefully this project will remain me of the difficulties in doing hand sewing. Not to forget hand quilting, hand suffer LOL.

Yuk bikin tas! Gampang kok....

Mau sharing gimana caranya buat tas (tote bag) yg gak pake lapisan dan gak perlu di quilt segala.

Bahan2 yg harus disiapin:

2 pieces bahan uk. 13 1/2 inches x 14 inches (untuk luar tas)

2 pieces bahan uk 13 1/2 inches x 14 inches (untuk dalam tas)

1 piece bahan uk. 4 inches x kira2 44 inches panjang (untuk tali tas) - ukuran ini akan dibagi/dipotong 2 untuk 2 buah tali. Jadi bila menginginkan tali panjang bisa ditambahkan panjangnya sesuai selera.

Ikutin step-stepnya.

Pertama kita buat tali tasnya dulu

Dibagi 4 memanjang

Dilipat. Dilicinkan dengan setrika

Dijahit di kedua sisi panjangnya. Tali tas selesai.

Sekarang cara bikin tasnya
Pada masing bahan bagian luar dan dalam tas dijahit dgn bagian yg benar jadi satu.
Jahit di tiga sisi.

Setelah ke dua bagian tas dijahit di 3 sisinya, pd bagian bawah tas dijahit sepanjang 1 1/2 inches dari ujung.

dijahit di kedua ujung bawah tas spt gambar (lakukan hal yg sama dgn tas utk bagian dalam)

Masukkan bagian dalam tas ke dalam bagian luar tas. Bagian yg benar dipertemukan. Jangan lupa ke 2 tali dipasang di ke 2 bagian. Jahit keliling, sisakan 2-3" untuk membalik tas.

Dear Quilters,

Karena kemain ada yang tanya soal perbedaan antara Patchwork dan Quilting, aku coba menjelaskan artinya satu persatu.

Aku ngambil arti kata dari Wikipedia
Patchwork asal kata "pieced work" is a form of needlework that involves sewing together pieces of fabric into a larger design.

Jadi bahasa gampangnya: pekerjaan menjahit dari beberapa bentuk geometris bahan disambung-sambung hingga menjadi sebuah bentuk yg besar spt selimut, wall hanging, taplak meja, dll. Sebenarnya agak ribet juga, dari berbagai macam corak kain digunting2 sesuai bentuk yg diinginkan lalu setelah digunting disambung kembali sesuai dgn design yg diinginkan.

Biasanya kalau di Indonesia jaman dulu ya kain perca namanya, tapi biasanya bahan yg dipakai adalah bahan bekas dari tukang jahit baju konveksi misalnya.
Kain perca bisa di dapat dari kain sisa potongan2 bahan yg sudah kita pakai. Biasanya dinamakan 'scrap'. Contoh gambar dibawah, patchwork dgn menggunakan scrap.

Quilting adalah a sewing method done to join two or more layers of material together to make a thicker padded materi.

Metode/tehnik menjahit yang menggabungkan 2-lebih lapisan agar menjadi lebih tebal. Hal ini dapat dgn menggabungkan 2 bahan (top dan backing) dan lapisan tengahnya menggunakan dacron/silicon. Bahasa kitanya, jahit tisik tindas.

Quilting dapat dilakukan dengan 2 cara, handquilt dan machinequilt. Keduanya memiliki tingkat kualitas yg berbeda. Biasanya kualitas handquilt adalah lbh mahal dari machinequilt. Selain pengerjaannya yg lama, handquilt lebih terasa sentuhan alaminya. Contoh : handquilt yg dikerjakan orang2 Amish adalah yg memiliki kualitas terbaik di world of quilter.

Wash Day Blues wasn't my first applique project. This pattern was my first knowledge in applique.

My first quilting project, Sari, gave the pattern to me. At that time I doubt I can make it. But I make can....

This applique wall hanging becoming so special to me cause, this one is become my first 'charity quilt'. For my daughter kindergarden class.

Batting Process

Actually, this is my second quilt. I have been doing this quilt not long after my first quilt was finished. I have no machine yet at that time. All by hand including quilt. This pattern was designed by Pat Sloan. I saw this pattern on Mc Calls quilting magazine, a study of yellow.

Nine Patch (Bahasa)

Pola Nine Patch adalah pola yang paling mudah yang dapat dibuat oleh seorang quilter pemula. Nine patch adalah pola pertama yang dibuat dalam basic quilting course.

Step 1:

Buatlah gambar persegi sama sisi ukuran 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 inch pada plastic template dan beri nama. Misal template 1C. Template ini akan dapat dipakai terus dalam pembuatan pola nine patch. Gunakan kombinasi bahan polos terang dan corak agar tidak terlalu ramai.

Note:
Anda dapat menggunakan/membuat template plastic ukuran berapapun sesuai selera, ukuran template ini akan berpengaruh terhadap bentuk jadi dari quilting nine patch anda.

Contoh plastic template

Step 2:

Cetak plastic template ke belakang bahan dengan menggunakan pensil 2B. Sebelum bahan digunting sisakan ¼ inch untuk jahitan. Hubungkan garis pensil antara bahan polos dengan bahan corak dengan jarum pentul, lalu jahit. Jarum pentul akan membuat jahitan mesin anda lurus.

Step 3:

Jahit keseluruhan potongan bahan polos dan corak
1 ukuran blok nine patch : 4-1/2 inch (12 cm) - dapat dimodifikasi sesuai keinginan

9. Benang jahit
10. Jarum pentul

13. Setrika
14. Silicon/dacron

Pilih sebuah pattern (pola)

Untuk seorang pemula, saya menyarankan untuk membuat pola yang mudah berupa strip-strip seperti Fence Rail atau Roman Square sebagai karya quilt pertama anda sebelum menuju ke pola dengan bentuk kotak, segitiga, atau bentuk diamond.

Bahan (Fabrics)

Saya sangat menyarankan anda untuk membeli bahan yang 100% katun. Katun sangat kuat saat basah, mudah disetrika pada temperature tinggi, mudah dilipat, menyerap air, dan enak dipakai. Para quilter harus membeli bahan yang berkualitas bagus. Ambil sedikit waktu untuk menganalisa jenis/corak bahan sebelum membelinya.

Sebelum bahan dipotong/dipakai, sangat disarankan untuk dicuci terlebih dahulu. Pisahkan bahan yg berwarna terang dan gelap. Hati-hati bahan yang mudah luntur akan menlunturi semua bahan pada quilt anda saat quilting yang sudah jadi anda cuci.

Untuk mengetahui apakah bahan tersebut luntur atau tidak, caranya potong sedikit bahan masukkan ke dalam segelas air hangat tanpa detergent. Lihat bila tidak ada perubahan warna pada air rendaman maka bahan tersebut tidak luntur. Namun bila ternyata air rendaman berwarna maka cuci bahan dengan memakai mesin cuci tanpa menggunakan detergent atau sabun (bisa 2x cuci).

Bagi pemula saya sarankan membeli bahan bercorak yang tidak terlalu ramai, misalnya terdiri dari 2-3 campuran warna dalam satu bahan. Perkirakan bagaimana corak bahan bila dipotong dalam ukuran kecil-kecil.

Siapkan bahan dengan cukup sebelum anda memulai pekerjaan quilting. Karena kekurangan bahan dalam suatu project akan mempengaruhi pola warna dari quilting anda. Jangan buang sisa2 bahan dari hasil potongan project quilting anda, suatu hari akan berguna untuk project scrap quilting.

Ukuran Quilting

Putuskan ukuran jadi dari quilting yg akan ada buat. Akan dipergunakan untuk apa quilting yang akan dibuat? Apakah akan dibuat untuk bed cover atau untuk hiasan dinding, taplak meja? Menentukan ukuran akan memudahkan anda dalam menentukan kebutuhan bahan yang akan digunakan.

Wall Hanging (Hiasan Dinding) = 45 x 63 inches atau 118 x 166 cm
Bed cover uk. Twin = 69 x 93 inches atau 182 x 246 cm
Bed cover uk. Double/Queen = 87 x 87 inches atau 230 x 230 cm
Bed cover uk. King = 105 x 93 inches atau 278 x 246 cm

Basic Sampler

This one is my basic sampler. I made it on my first quilt course on January 2009 at Nisa the Art of quilting di Cipete.
I finished this course in 2 months with 3 of my classmates. We will have a big reunion on this December.

Now, this basic sampler quilt was hanging on my family room. So so happy seeing this quilt every day.

My First Quilt

The first time I knew quilting during 2006 from one of my friends. Thank you for mba Sari who introduced and taught me of basic quilting. From there I began liked and understand better quilting. Saturation, boredom, tired often stinging, not rare I left quilting just like that. But the wish to see the results of my first quilting made me continue to complete it. From 10 students, I was the only one who could finish it. It was finished during 2008.

From there, I want to share my knowledge for the other beginners specially in Indonesia. We could learn together about easy patchwork and quilting.

If you have other important knowledge I was very grateful to give an input on this blog.
